The Tenerife Cabildo has closed access roads to Teide National Park this morning (26th February) following an overnight snowfall that left around 3cm of snow and ice on the ground.
The closures affect the TF-21 between La Caldera and the Teide Cable Car, including the Boca Tauce entrance, as well as the TF-24 from the Los Loros junction. The measures are designed to ensure driver safety and allow road crews to clear the affected areas efficiently.
Dámaso Arteaga, the island’s councillor for Roads, said that the safety protocol was activated as soon as snow was detected on the carriageway. “We have carried out a preventive closure of these stretches to avoid unnecessary risks,” he explained. “The new snowploughs have already been in operation so we can reopen the roads as soon as conditions improve.”
The Cabildo recently invested over €600,000 in three new snowploughs dedicated to maintaining the Teide high-altitude routes. These offer greater clearing capacity and faster response times during winter weather.
Arteaga highlighted the continuing effort to strengthen road-maintenance capabilities. “Keeping access to Teide in optimal condition is essential for public safety and for protecting this unique natural environment. Our priority is quick action, ensuring safety, and allowing everyone to enjoy the National Park responsibly.”
Residents and visitors are reminded to follow road-sign instructions, heed guidance from emergency services, and check the latest road conditions before travelling to the summit area.
