The Canary Islands experienced one of their most serious weekends on the roads, with three people losing their lives and sixteen others left injured between today and yesterday (Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th January). The fatal incidents all happened in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, leaving several of the injured in a critical condition
The first fatal accident occurred on Saturday afternoon on the TF-5 in Tenerife. A 43-year-old woman died after her car left the road and overturned near the Los Naranjeros exit. Emergency teams tried to save her using advanced resuscitation, but she could not be revived. Three other people in the car suffered minor injuries.
Later that evening, at 10:55pm, a man died in Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) after being hit by a vehicle on the Avenida Marítima. The collision was so severe that medical teams were unable to intervene when they arrived, and could only confirm his death.
The early hours of Sunday brought more serious incidents. On the GC-1 near Juan Grande, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, two vehicles crashed head-on.

Both cars overturned and one burst into flames. A 35-year-old woman died at the scene. Three others with minor injuries were taken to Doctor Negrín Hospital.
Another major incident happened on Saturday in La Matanza de Acentejo, Tenerife. Two cars collided on the TF-217, striking two pedestrians. A 76-year-old driver went into cardiac arrest and was taken to La Candelaria Hospital in critical condition.
On Sunday morning in Santa Cruz (Tenerife), three young adults were injured when their car crashed into a wall on Calle Rositen, between La Gallega and El Chorrillo. One of them suffered serious multiple injuries, and all three were taken to La Candelaria Hospital.
Across both islands, emergency services faced a continuous stream of callouts, marking a particularly bleak weekend for road safety in the archipelago.
