A 4.8 earthquake in La Palma has been felt in Tenerife, including the south

The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has reported that they recorded a 4.8 magnitude earthquake at 5.25pm this afternoon (Tuesday) that was felt by the population of La Palma and some towns in the north and south of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro.

According to the IGN website, the quake was detected in Villa de Mazo, on La Palma, at a depth of 34 kilometres, but was recorded by monitoring stations in Tenerife in Santiago del Teide, Adeje, San Miguel de Abona, La Laguna, Santa Cruz, Puerto de la Cruz, Güímar, Buenavista del Norte, Los Realejos, Icod de los Vinos, La Orotava, Candelaria, Garachico, and Tacoronte.

The tremor was also felt in Frontera, El Pinar and Valverde, in El Hierro, and in Hermigua, San Sebastián and Valle Gran Rey, on the island of La Gomera.

After this earthquake, a chain of five tremors with magnitudes greater than 3 were registered in just fifteen minutes, two of them felt with intensity II and III.
