One of the people who ignored Government alerts and weather warnings and entered the closed-off area of the Ajuy Caves in Fuerteventura had to be rescued by helicopter in the dark last night (Saturday) after a wave dragged her into the sea and she couldn’t get out.
According to the emergency services portal, a 23-year-old woman was airlifted to safety by the Helimer rescue helicopter before being transferred by ambulance to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura with severe hypothermia.
They also treated a 25-year-old man who had been rescued from the water, who fortunately only had minor abrasions and cuts from the rocks.
The area was sealed off by the Pajara Council on Friday due to AEMET's forecast of dangerous sea conditions for the entire weekend, and there have been numerous reports and images of people ignoring the fact that entry was prohibited.
It seems that these warnings are put in place for a reason!
