A 33-year-old man needed to be rescued by helicopter yesterday (Saturday) after an accident whilst climbing in a ravine in the El Tablero area of Tenerife, as reported by the Emergency and Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident occurred at around 3:25pm when the 1-1-2 emergency operations centre received an alert stating that a climber required medical assistance after being struck by rocks that had fallen in a ravine in the aforementioned area.
Members of the Tenerife Fire Consortium dispatched to the scene determined that it was not possible to carry out a ground rescue safely and requested the intervention of a helicopter from CECOES.

Rescuers were winched down from the helicopter to access the area and proceeded to rescue the climber who had suffered ‘moderate’ injuries from the falling rocks. They hoisted him onto the aircraft and airlifted him to Tenerife North Airport.
Once on the ground, SUC medical personnel took charge of his care and transferred him to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital, for further treatment of a chest injury.
Local Police officers from the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and El Rosario collaborated with the rest of the emergency services in the operation deployed in the area. The Civil Guard carried out the corresponding procedures.
