A woman was tragically killed yesterday (Monday) after falling off a cliff from a height of 100 metres onto rocks below at Roque Nublo in Tejeda, Gran Canaria, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident occurred around 1:15pm which is when the 112 emergency call centre received an alert informing them that a Belgian woman had had a fall and they needed urgent help.
CECOES immediately dispatched a rescue helicopter to the location given and the crew managed to reach the spot where the woman had landed. Straight away they were able to verify that the woman was dead and had sustained injuries incompatible with life
After obtaining the necessary authorisation, they recovered her body and airlifted it to the Pozo de Las Nieves helipad, where it was placed under judicial authority waiting to be taken for official identification and autopsy.
Sources from the Guardia Civil have informed the EFE news agency that the fall was accidental and that it was a family member who alerted the emergency services.
