Two men have been arrested for illegal possession of firearms by the Guardia Civil, after one of them, a 22-year-old, shot himself in the penis after accidentally firing the weapon he was carrying hidden in his trousers when he was in the street.
The incident occurred in Novelda, a town in Alicante when agents began investigating reports of a gunshot on public roads from local residents. According to witnesses, the wounded man left the scene in a car driven by another young man of a similar age.
During the investigation, police saw that the emergency services had reported that a young man matching his description was admitted to Elda Hospital with injuries compatible with a firearm, needing a four-hour operation to try and reconstruct his penis.
During a police interview, the man, who already has a police record, admitted to carrying the weapon in his clothes and firing it accidentally, which caused the injury, and was arrested for illegal possession.
The other man, who took him to hospital, was also found to have weapons after police searched his car. Both have been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court 4 of Novelda for sentencing.
