Two earthquakes of 2.5 magnitude are recorded in Gran Canaria

The National Geographic Institute of the Canary Islands (IGN) have reported that they registered an earthquake of 2.5 magnitude on the Richter scale yesterday afternoon (Thursday), near to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The earthquake was registered in the sea, a few kilometres from La Isleta, the most northwestern point of the island, at a depth of 30 kilometres.

According to the IGN data it was detected at 3:58pm and lasted for 30 seconds, but due to its depth, wasn’t felt by the public.

A second one of 2.6 magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded later in the day at 5:54pm, in the southern half of the island at a depth of 32km below Santa Lucía de Tirajana, this time under the island, not the sea.
