Tragic drowning incident claims man’s life at Puerto Rico beach

In a sombre turn of events, a man lost his life due to drowning yesterday afternoon (Thursday) at Puerto Rico Beach, located within the municipality of Mogan in the south of Gran Canaria, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

CECOES received an alert at around 3:45pm informing them that beach lifeguards had rescued a man from the sea and were trying to resuscitate him, and requested urgent medical assistance.

SUC medical personnel were dispatched to the location given and took over procedures administering advanced CPR, but unfortunately, they couldn’t revive him and certified his death shortly after.

Following this, the Guardia Civil safeguarded the deceased's body until the arrival of the judicial authorities who conducted the necessary legal proceedings, which includes officially identifying him and determining the cause of death.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with coastal activities, prompting authorities to reiterate the importance of adhering to safety guidelines while enjoying the region's beaches.
