A 50-year-old male tourist had to be urgently transferred from Fuerteventura to Gran Canaria yesterday (Saturday) in critical condition on a medical helicopter, after drowning at Cofete Beach in Pájara, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre.
The man, of Polish nationality, was rescued from the water at Cofete Beach, exhibiting symptoms of drowning, and subsequently went into cardiac and respiratory arrest, and needed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to try and revive him.
When paramedics arrived at the scene, they took over and applied advanced techniques successfully reversing the cardiac and respiratory arrest and recovering his breathing.
After being stabilised, the man was airlifted via helicopter in critical condition to the helipad at the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria for emergency treatment.
