A rosé wine from Tenerife has been crowned the best in Spain, marking a major milestone for the Canary Islands’ growing reputation in the national wine scene.
The award-winning Ferrera Rosado Seco (DOP Islas Canarias), produced in the town of Arafo, received an outstanding 96 points in La Vanguardia’s respected wine guide, earning it the title of Best Rosé Wine of the Year for 2026.
A standout from volcanic vineyards
Made from 100% Listán Negro grapes grown at around 1,000 metres above sea level, the organic wine impressed expert tasters with its distinctive character.
Renowned sommelier Meritxell Falgueras described it as “clean and vibrant”, highlighting its unusual notes of sweets and floral aromas.
The recognition places a small, family-run winery from Arafo firmly at the top of Spanish viticulture, competing with some of the country’s most established producers.
Canary Islands wines gaining ground
The success reflects a broader shift in how wines from the Canary Islands are perceived across Spain, with increasing recognition for their unique volcanic terroir and high-altitude vineyards.
The achievement in Tenerife was matched by further success from Lanzarote, where winemaker Amor López, from Bodega Erupción, received the Isabel Mijares Award for ‘New Generation’.
Her work has been praised for combining traditional techniques with a modern approach, producing organic wines that reflect the island’s volcanic landscape.
