Staff at a gym in Tenerife save man's life after a heart attack while training

Staff at a gymnasium in Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) saved the life of a 46-year-old man yesterday morning (Friday), who experienced a cardiac arrest while training at the sports facility, by using a defibrillator.

The emergency services reported that they received an alert at approximately 10:40am informing them that a client had suffered a heart attack, and the gym staff were administering first aid.

Upon seeing the man collapse, gym personnel confirmed that he had experienced a cardiac arrest and immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and used a semi-automatic defibrillator which they have available at the sports facility, successfully reversing the cardiac arrest.

Upon arrival at the gym, the SUC medical team verified that the affected individual had been successfully revived from cardiac arrest and, after stabilizing him, transferred him in critical condition to the HUC Hospital for further treatment.

The incident highlights the importance of having staff trained in First Aid and having the correct equipment available as it saves lives.
