Six injured in a head on collision between a school bus and a car

A school bus and an SUV were involved in a head-on collision this morning (Wednesday) in Gran Canaria on the GC-2 by the Juncal Bridge in the municipality of Gáldar, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The incident took place at 8:49am when the 1-1-2 call centre received an alert informing there had been an accident and that several people had been injured.

They immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources to the location given, including a medical helicopter, four ambulances, paramedics, a doctor and a nurse from the Agaete Health Centre, the Local Police, and the Guardia Civil.

When they got there they had to release the driver of the 4×4 who had been trapped inside it, before securing the area. Meanwhile, medical personnel assisted all the injured and started to transfer them to different hospitals for further treatment.

In total, six people were seriously injured including the two drivers of the vehicles, three pupils on the bus, and the companion of the bus driver.

The Guardia Civil have opened an investigation into the cause of the accident.
