Sharp drop in temperatures and strong winds forecast for the Canaries this Saturday
Temperatures across the Canary Islands are set to fall sharply today, Saturday, with the possibility of frost forming on peaks, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). The day will bring cloudy intervals, strong winds, and some locally very strong gusts.
AEMET forecasts highs of 21°C in Tenerife and the western islands, 20°C in Gran Canaria and the eastern islands, with lows of 15°C and 16°C respectively. Winds will blow from the north, moderate overall but with strong intervals and occasional very strong gusts.
Maritime conditions will also be unsettled with active yellow warnings for dangerous coastal conditions. Northerly winds shifting to northwest or northeast depending on the area. Wind force will range between 3 and 5 accompanied by showers, moderate to rough seas, and north-westerly swell reaching up to 5 metres in some places.

TENERIFE
Cloudy intervals clearing towards midday except in the west. Skies clear on the peaks. Temperatures falling slightly to moderately, most noticeably in mid-altitude and high areas. Light frost may form on the central peaks. Moderate northerly winds with strong intervals and possible very strong gusts, particularly in the northwest, along the ridge, the upper Güímar valley, Anaga, and south of the metropolitan area during the early hours. On the central peaks, strong northerly winds will ease during the morning and shift to northeast later.
General temperature range: low of 16°C and high of 21°C.
GRAN CANARIA
Cloudy intervals clearing from midday except in the northeast, where clouds will persist. Temperatures falling slightly to moderately, more sharply in mid-altitude areas and on the peaks. Moderate north to northeasterly winds with strong intervals on the southeast and northwest slopes. Occasional very strong gusts are possible on exposed summits and higher areas of the Tejeda and Tirajana valleys during the early hours. Winds easing by evening.
General temperature range: low of 16°C and high of 20°C.
LANZAROTE
Cloudy intervals becoming mostly clear by the afternoon. Slight drop in temperatures. Moderate northerly winds with locally strong intervals, shifting to northeast and easing later.
General temperature range: low of 16°C and high of 20°C.
FUERTEVENTURA
Cloudy intervals clearing through the morning. Temperatures falling slightly, with a more noticeable drop inland during the night. Moderate northeasterly winds with locally strong intervals, easing late in the day.
General temperature range: low of 15°C and high of 20°C.
