Rally Islas Canarias becomes a WRC event putting Gran Canaria on the world stage

The Mayor of Las Palmas, Carolina Darias, has voiced her support for the 49th edition of the Rally Islas Canarias in April, which will be part of the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the first time, putting Gran Canaria on the world stage for sport.

In a meeting with event promoter Germán Morales on Wednesday, Darias expressed the local administration's commitment to the event, which will take place from 24th to 27th April 2025.

The mayor highlighted the significance of this milestone, as the rally makes its debut on the WRC calendar. The Rally Islas Canarias will serve as the fourth stop in a series of 14 events, starting on 23rd January in Monte Carlo and concluding on 30th November in Saudi Arabia.

An International Stage for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Mayor Darias emphasized the importance of this prestigious addition to the city's sporting calendar, noting its growing influence on the international rally scene.

The inclusion of Rally Islas Canarias in the WRC enhances its reputation as a globally recognised event, attracting attention from motorsport enthusiasts and competitors worldwide.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will play a pivotal role in hosting key aspects of the rally, including the official presentation, the servicing area, the starting ceremonies, and the podium celebrations.

The event's integration into the WRC not only strengthens the city's position in the world of motorsport but also promises to bring economic and cultural benefits, reinforcing its identity as a hub for major international events.

Commitment to Excellence

The Council's support reflects its ongoing dedication to positioning Las Palmas as a premier destination for international sports and tourism. The rally’s inclusion in the WRC calendar is a testament to its organisational excellence and the appeal of the Canary Islands as a prime location for world-class competitions, following in the footsteps of the announcement that World Cup matches will be played on the island in 2030.

With the rally scheduled to take centre stage in April, the city is gearing up to welcome drivers, teams, and fans from around the globe for an unforgettable event.
