The National Police have launched an investigation after 27 underage individuals were reportedly found inside a nightclub in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, in the early hours of 31st August.

According to police reports, the minors were allegedly locked in a back room of the venue in an attempt to hide them from officers, who were carrying out a patrol in the area, as it is illegal for them to be on the premises.

Statements are currently being taken from those involved as investigators work to determine what offences may have been committed. Both the owner and staff of the club could face charges related to the “unlawful detention of minors”, even if they went in there on their own accord, as well as the fact that they knowingly had underage drinkers in the venue.

The Canary Islands Police Headquarters has confirmed that the case remains in the investigation phase. Authorities have said further information will be provided once the facts are clarified.
