Outrage as influencer hides €1,000 prize in sand dunes and followers dig it up

The challenges undertaken by influencers sometimes go to extremes in pursuit of 'likes' and followers. Regardless of location, some are willing to carry them out, even in protected areas, which is precisely what happened yesterday (Saturday) at the Maspalomas Dunes in Gran Canaria.

Here an ‘influencer’ buried €1,000 in the sand of the Special Nature Reserve, and their followers flocked en masse with spades and shovels to find the money, as reported by the digital newspaper TIEMPO DE CANARIAS.

The images have gone viral on social media, accompanied by numerous complaints about the destruction unfolding in this region in the south of Gran Canaria.

The goal was clear: find the 1,000 euros hidden in the sand and you win it. However, in pursuit of this objective, the people involved completely disregarded the fact that it is a protected area and the potential negative impact on the environment.

Faced with this situation, the Gran Canaria Cabildo has already announced that it has dispatched Environmental Agents to the area to investigate the incident. Subsequently, they will prepare a complaint to be filed with the Prosecutor's Office.

The Maspalomas Dunes have been designated as a Protected Natural Area with the category of Special Nature Reserve since 1994, although they were initially declared a protected area in 1987. This extensive sea of sand is located in the south of the island of Gran Canaria, covering approximately 404 hectares.
