One worker is killed and another is critically injured at a hotel in the Canaries

A 52-year-old hotel worker was killed yesterday (Wednesday), and another critically injured, when a retaining wall collapsed and fell on them while they were renovating the Hotel Puerto Azul, which is in Puerto Rico in the south of Gran Canaria.

The Emergency Services have confirmed that the incident took place at 3.30pm yesterday, and that the critically wounded man was transferred by ambulance to Playa Amadores, where a helicopter was waiting to fly him to hospital.

No further information has been released publically about the identities of the two men, especially as the injured man was only carrying a transport card as documentation.

The work has been temporarily stopped at the hotel and an investigation has been opened to find out why the wall collapsed and the official cause of death.
