The San Bartolomé de Tirajana Council has published the conditions to be a taxi driver in Maspalomas, one of the busiest tourist resorts in Gran Canaria, including the exam needed to pass, the closing date for applications, and that new drivers must speak English and know the history of the municipality.
Firstly, anyone of Spanish nationality who has a type B driving license and has paid the 30 euro exam fee may apply, with applications starting tomorrow (Tuesday) for 40 days.
The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions split into four sections and themes, with one of them being about the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and one in English.
New drivers must know, at an absolute minimum, how to say hello, the prices, and be able to discuss directions in English, and must also have a good geographical knowledge of the area including the street layout and points of interest.
Likewise, candidates will also have to pass a psychotechnical test to find out their attitude towards clients and how they deal with certain situations that may arise during their day, and must also pass an interview with a qualifying panel.
