A man was injured in the early hours of this morning (Thursday) after his car overturned on the GC-1 motorway in Gran Canaria. The incident happened around 4:30 am in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, on the southbound carriageway.
According to the emergency services, the 40-year-old driver was the only person in the vehicle when it flipped over and came to rest on the road. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed.
Despite the severity of the crash, the man managed to free himself from the overturned vehicle before emergency services arrived. Firefighters attended the scene to secure the car and prevent further risks.
Paramedics assessed the driver, who was found to have sustained multiple moderate injuries. After being stabilised, he was taken by ambulance to Hospiten Roca in the south of the island for further treatment.
While his injuries were not life-threatening, medical staff stressed that follow-up care would be needed due to the nature of his trauma.
The GC-1 is the main motorway linking the north and south of Gran Canaria and has been the scene of several serious accidents in recent months. In July, a multi-vehicle collision near Vecindario caused long delays and left several people injured, while earlier this year, another car overturned close to Arguineguín, resulting in hospitalisation for the driver.
