The National Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in Gran Canaria on charges of threats and property damage. An investigation was opened following a complaint filed by a woman late last year, who reported receiving threats on various social media platforms from people using fake profiles.
The threats included arson which the suspect is accused of carrying out, when he allegedly set fire to her car in a public street in Telde. Fearing further reprisals, the victim decided to relocate and live with a family member in another part of the island.
In response to the incidents, National Police officers launched a thorough investigation to unravel the facts surrounding the case. They discovered that the detainee strategically used multiple fake profiles on social media to conceal his identity while issuing threats to the woman, who it turns out, is his former employer.
Officers successfully managed to identify the suspect, revealing the fact that the 23-year-old used to work for the woman in question. He had been demanding payment for outstanding debts from the victim, using intimidation tactics and threatening to carry out the acts unless the money was received.
He is now in custody and awaiting legal proceedings before the competent judicial authority.
