The Local Police found 28.2 kilograms of hashish in bags abandoned behind a bus shelter on Wednesday afternoon in La Aldea de San Nicolás in Gran Canaria, after receiving an anonymous tip-off that it had been left there.
According to a statement from the Council, they received a call informing them that bags of drugs had been left at the bus stop by a man who approached the shelter from behind through a sugar cane field.
Officers immediately went to the location given and found a supermarket bag and backpack containing several small bricks of a brown/black substance that looked like drugs, with some wrapped in transparent plastic.
The officers suspected that it could be hashish "due to the odour they emitted and their appearance," and their suspicions were confirmed by subsequent analysis and weighing of the substance.
The case is now in the hands of the Guardia Civil who have opened an investigation to find out who left them there and where it has come from.
