A sweet shop in the neighbourhood of Las Chumberas in Gran Canaria, became the scene of a dramatic attempted robbery early on Wednesday morning.
The masked suspect, armed with a large knife, stormed the shop, but it's unclear if any cash was taken.
As the assailant made his getaway, he collided with a parked car on Calle Mariucha Street and dropped the knife, leaving it on the floor as he fled.
The incident prompted a swift response from both Local and National Police, who have opened an investigation into the crime. The armed robber, whose identity was concealed by a hood, escaped in a rented Seat Ateca.
The shop assistant, who courageously resisted the robber's attempts, needed medical assistance following an anxiety attack after the ordeal.
The knife used in the attempted robbery was later found on Calle Teobaldo Power by officers. Meanwhile, the getaway vehicle has been found abandoned in the La Feria area as investigations continue.
