Las Canteras is the only beach in the Canaries with the 'Q' award for Tourist Quality

Playa Las Canteras, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is the only beach in the Canary Islands that has the 'Q' for Tourist Quality after it had its certification renewed by the Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality (ICTE), which it was first awarded in 2013.

According to a press release from the City Council, it passed the audit, which was carried out at the beginning of July, "with flying colours", and recognises "the effort and work that all the municipal services, and users of the beach, respect every day".

The 'Q' for Tourist Quality is not only awarded for respecting environmental values and the sustainability of ecosystems, but also evaluates the services offered by the beach, such as rescue and first aid, citizen and tourist information, cleaning, waste collection and management, and accessibility, among others.

The mayor of Las Palmas said: “This distinction represents an essential element in the projection and positioning of Las Palmas as a tourist city, and allows visitors enjoy the sun and the sea in the best environment possible".

Las Canteras is one of the highest valued beaches in Spain and, in addition to the 'Q' for Quality, has been awarded the Blue Flag, the Environmental Management Certificate, and the Universal Accessibility Certificate.
