Jennifer Lopez is back filming in Gran Canaria

Jennifer Lopez returned to Gran Canaria yesterday to rejoin the rest of the crew who have been preparing for the last few weeks, to resume shooting Netflix production, 'The Mother', in which she is starring and co-producing. Filming was suspended in early January due to an outbreak of Covid among the crew during the sixth wave here in the Canary Islands.

The actress and singer arrived in Las Palmas by private jet yesterday afternoon from the United States, whereas the international crew and the local crew have been getting everything ready and shot some sequences in last week on La Isleta in Las Palmas.

The planned filming locations include the Literary Cabinet, also in the island's capital, and the Marquesa Gardens in Arucas. These locations, and other background shots of the island, will be seen on the big screen alongside settings in Cuba, where part of the plot takes place.

'The Mother' is an action thriller in which J-Lo plays a woman with a violent past who has to come out of anonymity to save her daughter. The film is directed by Niki Caro and is one of Netflix's biggest productions this year, in fact, they already included scenes from the film in their announcement of the big premieres during 2022.

The cast includes Gael García Bernal (Bad Education) and Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), who all came to Gran Canaria in January and shot some scenes in a luxurious villa in El Salobre. However, production plans were disrupted by the Covid outbreak.

During this time, Lopez returned to the United States, for a promotional tour and the premiere of romantic comedy ‘Marry Me’ with Owen Wilson released on Valentine's Day.

'The Mother' joins a long list of international productions in the Canary Islands, taking advantage of tax incentives for audiovisual productions, including the new series of Jack Ryan which is scheduled to start in March and be here for three months.
