Gran Canaria has set a new record for tourism revenue, generating almost €1.18 billion in the second quarter of 2025, a 12.6% increase compared to the same period last year. According to figures from ISTAC and Promotur, the island welcomed 890,633 visitors between April and June, up 11.2% year-on-year.
Tourists are also staying longer, with the average length of stay rising from 9.44 nights in 2024 to 9.71 nights this year. The average spend per visitor now stands at €1,324.00 with a daily spend of €162.20.
Carlos Álamo, Tourism Councillor for the Gran Canaria Cabildo, described the results as “historic” and a sign of the island’s strength as a destination.
“The island has managed to bill 12.6% more compared to 2024, which was already a record year with more than €6 billion in revenue. Achieving this in a climate of global uncertainty shows Gran Canaria’s solidity and enduring appeal,” he said.
Álamo credited the results to diversification of markets, greater promotion of complementary activities, encouraging visitor spending in non-tourist municipalities, and targeting higher-spending travellers. He also praised the private sector’s role in maintaining quality standards, which he said has made this “the best quarter in the island’s history” and has contributed to ongoing job growth.
Gran Canaria leads the Canary Islands in spending
The island now tops the regional statistics for total spend per visitor, per trip, per day, and in average length of stay. Accommodation revenues alone reached €541 million, up 16%, while the category of “Other Tourist Expenditure” surged by 24% to €347 million.
By market, Spanish tourists spent €95.39 million, up 15.4%, while German visitors accounted for €243.84 million (+11.1%). The UK remained the largest single market with €302.74 million, though this represented a slight drop of -0.59%.
The strongest growth came from the Nordic markets, which saw expenditure rise by a remarkable 78.9%, reaching €150 million compared with €83.88 million in 2024. In terms of transport spend, Nordic countries also recorded the highest increase, up 122%, while Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK showed small declines.
With these results, Gran Canaria continues to consolidate its position as one of Europe’s most resilient and attractive destinations for both holidaymakers and long-stay visitors.
