Four-year-old girl rescued from near-drowning incident at pool in Maspalomas

A four-year-old girl was rescued from a near-drowning incident in a swimming pool in the south of Gran Canaria yesterday morning (Tuesday), according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The incident took place just after 11:00am in a tourist complex in Maspalomas, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, where the young girl, who is on holiday with her parents, was pulled from the pool.

When paramedics arrived at the complex they assessed the situation and found the girl to be conscious, showing ‘moderate’ signs of drowning. They provided immediate medical assistance before taking her to Hospital San Roque Maspalomas for further care.

Near-drowning refers to a situation where an individual survives a drowning incident but experiences respiratory impairment. It can result in various complications, including brain damage, due to the lack of oxygen. Prompt medical intervention is crucial to mitigate potential long-term effects and ensure a full recovery.

The Local Police have taken charge of the investigation into the incident.
