Five people were injured in a car accident involving several vehicles on the southbound lane of the GC-1 motorway yesterday (Saturday), near Agüimes in Gran Canaria, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The accident occurred around 2:15pm which is when CECOES received an alert reporting a traffic accident with three vehicles involved and immediately activated the necessary emergency resources to the location given.

Firefighters secured the damaged vehicles and had to cut four people out of their vehicle because they were trapped inside, so they could be treated by medical personnel.

Among the injured was a man treated for moderate leg injuries, who was transferred to the Hospital Universitario Insular in Las Palmas for further treatment, and three women aged 44, 58, and 61 years old, who were all taken to the Arnao Clinic for treatment of various injuries.

A child under the age of five was also injured in the accident, so was transferred by the SUC to the Arnao Clinic for routine observation and treatment of cuts and bruises, but fortunately, nothing classed as medically serious.

Highway Maintenance Service personnel carried out cleaning tasks on the road to ensure it was open fully to traffic as quickly as possible, and the Guardia Civil made the corresponding report to determine the cause of the accident.
