Canarian airline Binter faced an emergency on flight NT 503 on Tuesday night when one of the passengers suffered a heart attack mid-flight. The plane had taken off on the evening of December 12th from Lanzarote to Gran Canaria when one of the passengers experienced a cardiac arrest.
According to witnesses who spoke to La Voz de Lanzarote, one of the passengers, who happened to be a nurse, immediately took action to save the man's life. "She performed cardiac massages and laid him on the floor in the aisle of the plane," they said.
The plane landed four minutes ahead of schedule at Gran Canaria Airport, where an ambulance was waiting for the flight's arrival to attend to the affected passenger. Paramedics immediately boarded the plane, and after stabilising him, rushed him to hospital for further treatment.
The incident highlights the importance of having people on board flights with first aid training.
