The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) have reported the discovery of a dead body floating off the coast of the Canary Islands yesterday (Monday).
It was found at around 8:00pm last night approximately 30 metres from the shore of El Confital beach in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and has been identified as that of an 89-year-old woman who lived in the area.
The fire brigade successfully reached the area and retrieved the body from the water, and brought it ashore where SUC medical personnel confirmed her death.
The National and Local Police have taken over the investigation and are handling the necessary legal proceedings, whilst the body has been taken for autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
