Body of fisherman found floating off the coast of Gran Canaria
Firefighters have recovered the body of a fisherman found partially submerged in the sea near the coastal tetrapods along Avenida Marítima in Las Palmas (Gran Canaria), close to the Public Library in the San Telmo area of the city.
The recovery took place yesterday, Friday, after the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received a report at approximately 2:25pm alerting them to the presence of a body floating in the water near the shore.
Emergency crews, including the city’s fire brigade, were quickly deployed to the scene, where they accessed the location and recovered the man's body. SUC Medical personnel were also dispatched but were only able to certify the man’s death.
Local Police officers assisted with the response efforts at the scene, while the National Police took custody of the body until the arrival of judicial authorities, who gave permission for it to be removed and taken for an autopsy.
An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
