The body of a man was discovered early on Monday morning at the entrance to the Insular Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. According to hospital sources, the deceased was a patient who had attended the Accident & Emergency unit on several occasions in recent days.
He was last treated and discharged on Sunday afternoon with clear medical guidelines for the management of his condition. Health authorities have stressed that “at no time was there any omission of care” by the hospital staff.
The man’s body was found at around 6 am by a hospital worker, who alerted emergency services when it became clear he showed no signs of life.
Officers from the National Police attended the hospital, took charge of the investigation, and confirmed that the death appeared to be from natural causes. The body has been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine for a post-mortem examination.
Police sources confirmed that the man was homeless and well known in the area, often frequenting the hospital’s emergency department. After being discharged on Sunday, he reportedly lay down outside the building, where he passed away during the night.
