A woman dies after drowning in Puerto Rico on Christmas Day
A 74-year-old woman died from drowning yesterday afternoon (Sunday) on the beach in Puerto Rico, in the south of Gran Canaria, after being rescued from the water by the lifeguard, according to a report from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The beach lifeguard retrieved the lady from the water at around 3:20pm and, after seeing that she was in cardiorespiratory arrest, tried to revive her using CPR and a defibrillator.
When medical staff arrived at the beach, they verified that the affected woman remained in cardiorespiratory arrest and, continued practicing advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation manoeuvres without obtaining positive results, and were only able to confirm her death.
Her body has been taken for official identification and autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
