A tourist destroys a holiday home and throws furniture onto the street from a window

A male tourist who was staying at a holiday home in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, was arrested in the early hours of this morning after trashing the holiday home he was staying in and throwing several pieces of furniture out of a window in the street below.

The incident occurred at around 2:00am this morning on Calle Albareda in Puerto Canteras, when the 40-year-old man of Italian nationality began to throw different items from the apartment out of the window, causing some damage to cars below.

Neighbours called the police who tried to access the building, but the man had locked himself inside a room and refused to come out or open the door.

By now, several different units of the security forces had arrived at the scene, including the fire brigade who used a cherry picker to assist the police in entering the apartment through a window.

Once inside, officers surprised the man and detained him easily as he didn’t try and resist arrest, and charged him with criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

He was then transferred by ambulance to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas, where he was admitted to the Psychiatric Unit where he awaiting assessment before he will be sentenced.
