A seaplane surprises bathers and swimmers at Las Canteras beach

A seaplane surprised bathers this morning (Monday) who were in the sea and on the Las Canteras Beach in Gran Canaria, as it unexpectedly skimmed the water just yards away from people on lilos and swimming nearby.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that, in this case, the plane was only carrying out test manoeuvres for collecting water in the case of forest fires, which can be a problem at this time of year when temperatures rise and humidity drops, as reported by the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Twitter.

As the summer approaches and the undergrowth dries out, forest fire warnings will be issued if conditions reach the Three30s when fires are rife:
Temperatures of above 30°C.
Humidity of less than 30%.
Winds of more than 30km/h.
