A large bundle of drugs gets washed up on Las Canteras beach

Yesterday morning, a large bundle of drugs appeared on the shore of the Las Canteras beach, in front of the Reina Isabel hotel, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Bathers and residents first spotted it as it was being washed up onto the beach, and informed the police.

Agents of the National Police were the first to inspect the suspicious package and confirmed that it contained hashish. Due to the condition of the bundle, which has barnacles and other crustaceans embedded in it, it appears that the drugs had been floating in the sea for several months.

Due to the currents and the prevailing wind in the last few days, they believe it could have come from the north of the island after being thrown overboard from a boat either as part of a drugs haul or from a patera crossing from West Africa.

The agents confirmed that the drugs were still dry despite the amount of time they had been in the water.
