A 9-month-old baby is seriously injured in Gran Canaria

A 9-month-old baby sustained serious injuries around 3:30pm yesterday afternoon (Thursday) when debris fell from the sixth floor of a building located on Calle Córdoba in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

CECOES responded quickly by dispatching medical personnel in ambulances to the location given, where they promptly gave assistance to the infant who suffered a severe head injury.

Once the baby was stabilised on-site, she was transported by ambulance to the University Maternity and Children's Hospital in the capital.

Meanwhile, officers from the Local Police took charge of conducting the corresponding investigation into what happened. The incident highlights concerns about building safety and will likely lead to further inquiries into the structural integrity of the affected property.

The authorities are working to ensure a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident and take appropriate measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
