A 7-year-old boy and his grandmother were seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon when an electricity and telephone pole fell on them in Firgas, Gran Canaria.
According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), the incident occurred on Calle Barranquera Honda after a lorry became entangled in the overhead cables, pulling the pole down onto the pair.
The emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and tended to the young boy, who had suffered multiple serious injuries. Once he was stabilised, they transferred him by ambulance to the Materno-Infantil University Hospital for further treatment.
His grandmother, who had sustained moderate injuries, was taken to the Doctor Negrín University Hospital in Las Palmas.
Firefighters assisted at the scene, while the Guardia Civil prepared the official incident report and escorted the ambulance carrying the child to the hospital.
