A 65-year-old woman has been rescued by helicopter after suffering a fall while hiking in a remote area of Tinajo, near Caldera Blanca, in Lanzarote, according to reports from the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The woman was injured and left stranded in difficult terrain, making ground access impossible for Emergency teams and firefighters, who deployed a helicopter to reach the scene and lift the hiker to safety.

Once airlifted, she was taken to a waiting ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service and transferred to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa in Arrecife for treatment.

She was admitted on Tuesday afternoon with moderate injuries, mainly trauma resulting from the fall.

Local Police officers also attended the scene and assisted with the rescue operation.
