The third wave of the pandemic has been most fatal so far

The third wave of the coronavirus pandemic arrived in the islands in mid-December, and continues today. Since then, the Canary Islands have registered 23,450 more infections, compared to the 21,175 since the beginning until the end of November 2020. That means that 52% of the confirmed cases in the archipelago have occurred in the last four months since December.

In this period, there have been 299 Covid related deaths in the Canary Islands, compared to the 162 lives that were claimed in the first wave of the pandemic between March and July last year, and the 183 of the second outbreak of the virus between August and November. In other words 46% of Covid deaths in the Canary Islands have been in the last four months.
