A 34-year-old woman is in serious condition in a coma after her husband set fire to the home, where she and their 4-year-old son, who was injured in the incident, were staying, in the municipality of Arona in the south of Tenerife.
Sources close to the investigation have told the EFE News Agency that the incident took place yesterday evening (Wednesday), when the man, a 31-year-old of Romanian nationality, allegedly set fire to their house with his wife, of Spanish nationality, and their son inside.
As a result of the fire, the woman has been placed in an induced coma with severe burns, while the young boy received treatment for mild smoke inhalation from medical personnel, but is ok.
Agents from the Arona Local Police were called to the fire and have since arrested the husband accused of starting the blaze. The Judicial Department of the Guardia Civil have taken charge of the case, which is being investigated as sexist violence, although, according to the sources consulted, there were no prior complaints or restraining orders in place.
