The Canary Islands are forecast another day of intense heat this Tuesday, with temperatures expected to reach, and in some places could exceed, 36°C in parts of the archipelago, according to the State Meteorological Agency, AEMET.
The hottest conditions are expected in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Gomera, while even the normally cooler western islands are set for unusually warm temperatures.
The warning comes as health authorities continue to highlight the risk from “extremely high” ultraviolet radiation levels in the Canary Islands, urging both tourists and residents to take extra care in the sun.
A yellow weather warning remains active for several islands through Tuesday for extreme heat as calima conditions — caused by dust drifting in from the Sahara — are also expected to affect parts of the islands, reducing visibility slightly and making the heat feel more oppressive.
Health authorities continue to advise people to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, and use high-factor sunscreen as UV radiation levels remain dangerously high across the Canary Islands.
Island-by-island forecast for Tuesday 26th May 2026:
Tenerife
Tenerife will continue to see very warm conditions, with temperatures rising slightly compared with previous days, particularly overnight.
Cloudy intervals are expected in the north of the island, while medium and high cloud will affect other areas. There is also a likelihood of calima haze, especially in southern and western parts.
Temperatures above 30°C are expected in many inland and mid-altitude areas, while parts of the north-east midlands and south- and west-facing slopes could locally reach 34°C.
Winds will remain generally light from the north, although stronger conditions are expected in the north-east tip and along western coasts. In higher areas, winds will gradually shift to a westerly direction.
General temperature range: Low of 23°C and high of 32°C.
Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is expected to experience some of the most extreme temperatures in the archipelago, especially in inland areas and on south- and west-facing slopes.
Intervals of medium and high cloud are forecast, while low cloud is expected along northern coasts early and late in the day. Calima will continue to affect visibility and air quality.
Temperatures will rise across the island, particularly in mid-altitude areas in the north and western parts of the island, while inland southern and western zones could climb to 36°C.
Northern winds may become occasionally strong along north-western and eastern coasts. In higher areas, winds will remain generally light and variable, with a predominance of westerly breezes.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and high of 32°C.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote is expected to see intervals of high cloud throughout the day, with lower cloud more noticeable in western areas during the morning and evening. Calima haze will continue to affect the island.
Temperatures will remain very warm overnight, with daytime highs climbing further, especially in the south where temperatures could locally exceed 36°C. Coastal areas will feel slightly cooler thanks to sea breezes, particularly along the east coast during the middle of the day.
Winds will generally be light from the north-west, although stronger gusts are expected in the far north and south of the island.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and high of 34°C.
Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is expected to be one of the hottest islands on Tuesday, with widespread temperatures above 34°C across inland and southern areas.
High cloud will dominate the skies, while lower cloud remains mainly along western coastal areas. Calima conditions will continue across much of the island.
Light north-westerly winds are forecast, although stronger winds are expected in northern and southern extremes and occasionally inland. Sea breezes will bring some temporary relief to eastern coastal areas during the hottest part of the afternoon.
General temperature range: Low of 21°C and high of 34°C.
La Gomera
La Gomera is also expected to experience unusually hot weather for the time of year, especially in inland and southern areas where temperatures could approach 34°C.
Skies will remain mostly clear with some high cloud passing through during the day. Warm overnight temperatures are expected to continue, offering little relief from the heat.
Light winds are forecast in most areas, although coastal breezes may strengthen during the afternoon.
La Palma
La Palma will remain slightly cooler than the eastern islands, although temperatures could still reach around 30°C in warmer inland and western parts.
Some cloud is expected in northern coastal areas during the early morning and evening, with clearer skies elsewhere. Conditions will remain dry and warm throughout the day. Light winds will dominate, particularly inland.
El Hierro
El Hierro is forecast to see temperatures close to 30°C in sheltered inland areas, with generally sunny skies and occasional cloud along northern coasts.
Winds will remain mostly light, helping create calm conditions across much of the island.
