The Council seals the accesses to the Plaza de Maspalomas commercial centre

The local council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has ordered the immediate sealing of all accesses to the Plaza de Maspalomas commercial centre where the majority of nightlife venues are located in Playa del Inglés. The action relates to an order from November last year instructing the community of the centre to update safety measures including fire extinguishers, alarms, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting.

The resolution, issued by the Department of Urban Planning, has already been notified to the community, which, without prejudice to its enforceability, has one month to file an appeal for reversal and two months for a judicial dispute.

In addition to this, the same order from November 19th 2021, orders the two generators that are supplying electricity to four venues on the ground floor, to be cut off as they were installed without permission, even though the rest of the building was without electricity.

This happened after Endesa cut off their supply after a fire in one of the locals in January 2021, which affected almost all of the complex's electricity distribution lines.

In the 14-page document, the Department of Urban Planning also orders the community to replace the deficiencies detected by the City Council technicians who visited the commercial centre on November 10th last year, which include the electrical installation and fire safety measures.

It states they have a maximum term of 2 months to comply, and if they don’t, they could be fined up to 30,000 euros.

The administrator of the community has already pointed out that it was them that denounced the presence of the generators inside the building, and that the works for the renovation of the electrical installation were already underway.

In his report, the municipal technician, categorically states that the Plaza de Maspalomas shopping centre cannot be in operation without the supply of electricity provided by duly authorized service providers, and not utilizing generators.

The order for Plaza de Maspalomas comes just a few weeks after the City Council ordered the total closure of the facilities of another complex located in the same area, the Metro shopping centre in Playa del Inglés, due to the state of ruin of the building.
