Shay Segev interest turns to DAZN

Shay Segev has become the sole CEO of DAZN as part of a group restructure that also sees Darren Waterman come in as Chief Financial Officer. These changes are being implemented to help the sports streaming company achieve ambitious growth objectives. Segev has a history of helping tech businesses that provide services and products over the internet to flourish.

Who is Shay Segev?
Shay is a notable business leader who has a proven track record of scaling digital consumer companies. Prior to joining DAZN in June 2021, he was the CEO of Entain, previously known as GVC Holdings. This group owns a string of stellar bookmakers and casinos, most notably PartyCasino. But Entain would not have become the market leader it is today without the critical contributions from Segev.

Between joining Entain in 2016 and leaving to join DAZN in 2021, Segev oversaw an astonishing growth period for the group and multiple acquisitions. The company managed to acquire all three of the gambling outfits mentioned above and others. He was also instrumental in working with MGM Resorts in the USA to establish BetMGM, a sports bookmaker and joint venture between two powerhouses in the gambling industry, looking to stake a claim to the emerging US sports betting market.

Segev began his journey at Tel Aviv University in his native Israel. He graduated with a degree in Applied Science in Computing Science before earning an MBA from a university in Chicago. His computer engineering skills landed him a job with the Israeli Defence Force before proceeding with his career in several innovative tech companies, which experienced great success with him in their ranks.

Other company structural moves:
Segev’s move to a solo CEO is just one of many other hierarchical changes at DAZN. Another big hitter to join the group as the CFO is Darren Waterman, who previously operated at Amazon as their CFO for Prime Video. He has already worked in the world of streaming and has proven capable to grow a streaming service internationally. The company’s co-founder, James Rushton, will remain in his current role.

About DAZN:
DAZN is an over-the-top sports streaming service provider, which means their streams are available directly online rather than via broadcasters. The group is headquartered in the UK but has full-time staff in more than 25 countries to date, including Spain. The group launched its services in 2016, at the same time Segev was joining Entain. Initially, the service was available in Japan, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria but has since grown to more than 200 countries.

It is an exciting time for DAZN. Not only can new additions and company restructure facilitate growth, but the company may even achieve that aim organically thanks to securing the rights to stream La Liga games from Spain and being crowned 2021 Apple TV App champions.
