A 54-year-old diver tragically lost his life this morning (Monday) after having a heart attack during a dive off the coast of Corralejo in Fuerteventura. The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) have reported that 112 received a call for help from a boat just after 10:30am, informing them that they were transporting an injured diver back to the shore.
Emergency SUC medical personnel, along with a primary care doctor and nurse, arrived at the scene quickly and verified that the diver was in cardiac arrest, prompting them to perform both basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Unfortunately, despite their efforts, they couldn’t revive diver and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Simultaneously, the Local Police cordoned off the area to facilitate the landing of a medical helicopter, however, it wasn’t needed as the diver had already been declared dead.
The Guardia Civil have taken over the case and are conducting the necessary investigations into the incident, and guarded the body until the coroner allowed it to be taken for official identification and autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
