A man is in a critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest while in the sea at La Isleta in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Emergency services rescued him from the water before carrying out life-saving treatment on the shore.

The incident happened at around 12:15pm today (Wednesday) in the Los Nidillos area, when emergency services received reports of a swimmer struggling to get out of the water. A full emergency response was immediately sent to the beach.

Red Cross personnel managed to get the man out of the sea and onto land, where medical teams were waiting. At that point, he was in cardiac arrest and required urgent intervention.

Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service carried out advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, successfully reviving him before stabilising his condition. He was then transferred by advanced life support ambulance to Hospital Universitario Doctor Negrín, where he remains in a critical condition.

Police, firefighters and rescue teams from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria also assisted in the operation, helping to secure the area and support the emergency response.

The exact circumstances of the incident are still unclear.
