A man has died after getting into difficulty while swimming at a beach in Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife.
Emergency services were called to Fañabé Beach at around 5:00pm on Saturday, according to reports from the Canary Islands’ Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES).
Beach lifeguards pulled the man from the water and found he was in cardio-respiratory arrest, which is caused by swallowing water, so immediately began CPR until a doctor and nurse arrived to take over with advanced resuscitation efforts.
Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service later confirmed the man had died at the scene as their attempts to revive him failed.
Local Police supported emergency crews during the response and guarded the body until the judicial authorities gave permission for it to be removed and taken for an autopsy.
The man’s age, identity, and nationality has not yet been made public.
