Lanzarote and Fuerteventura expected to get the worst weather this weekend

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are bracing themselves for particularly bad weather this weekend, caused by an isolated high-altitude depression, or DANA.

They are forecast to have heavy rain and strong northeasterly winds with both islands under a yellow alert issued by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Rain and Hail Likely

The weather system is expected to cause significant rainfall across the two islands, with AEMET forecasting up to 15mm of precipitation in an hour. The drop in temperatures, combined with strong winds, raises the possibility of hail during these storms.

The public are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on local weather conditions.

Rough Seas

The arrival of the DANA is also expected to impact sea and coastal conditions. Waves of up to 3.5 metres are anticipated along the northern and western coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and choppy waters are expected around the entire island.

Swimmers and beachgoers are strongly urged to take precautions and avoid risky activities in the water this weekend. The authorities recommend careful planning and adherence to safety measures to minimise the risks posed by this severe weather.
