A water delivery lorry caused major disruption on one of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’s busiest routes yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) after its load of glass bottles spilled across an access road to the Avenida Marítima.

The incident happened on the slip road linking Rafael Cabrera with the northbound carriageway of the Avenida Marítima, where several crates of bottled water fell onto the tarmac, leaving broken glass scattered across the road leading to urgent traffic control measures.

Officers from the Local Police were quickly sent to manage the situation, alongside crews from the Public Works and Infrastructure department of the Gran Canaria Cabildo. The priority was to prevent accidents and keep vehicles moving while the debris was cleared.

Both the lane merging onto the main road and the lane exiting it had to be reconfigured on the spot, as authorities worked to avoid a full traffic standstill on the busy coastal route, which is used daily by thousands of commuters and visitors.

Although no injuries were reported, the incident caused delays and disruption during a busy period of the day
