The lifeless body of a swimmer who disappeared on Saturday evening was found floating in the waters close to Cofete Beach in Fuerteventura yesterday afternoon, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
CECOES received an alert at 9:45pm on Saturday informing them of the disappearance of a man who had gone for a swim that afternoon but hadn’t come back.
The emergency services activated a search team consisting of a Helimer helicopter, a Maritime Rescue boat, a GES helicopter, the Guardia Civil, Local Police, Pájara Firefighters, and the SUC ambulance services.
Yesterday the GES helicopter located the body of the missing man floating in the sea; Maritime Rescue recovered it from the water and transferred it to the Morro Jable pier.
The Guardia Civil and health personnel were already at the dock waiting for it to arrive and guarded the body until the arrival of the judicial authority who instructed the corresponding proceedings for official identification and to confirm the cause of death.
